Un- and Underemployment Increases from July 2021
August 19, 2021
In August, the percentage of SaverLife members who indicate they are working at pre-pandemic levels fell 14%, from 58% to 50%, back in line with where the number has been for most of the spring months.
Of the 26% of members who say they’re unemployed, 58% say they’re looking but can’t find work, and 15% say that although they were looking for work prior to COVID, they aren’t looking for work now.
For those who can’t find work, 31% say they can’t find work that fits with their childcare schedule, 22% say they can’t find work that pays enough, 22% say they can’t find work where they’re safe from COVID, and 24% site another reason.
For those who aren’t looking for work, 29% cite caring for children or elders, and 24% say that a fear of catching COVID is keeping them from looking.
